Web Site Updated and Other News
- Please read the case report which originated from this clinic, The Japanese need Typhoid Vaccine which was published in the latest issue of The Journal of Travel Medicine.
- We think Gatifloxacin is clearly the drug of choice for typhoid fever. It is once a day dosing, inexpensive in South Asia, and the most effective of all the current typhoid drugs ( that is, it has the smallest MIC, minimum inhibitory concentration). Azithromycin is equally effective but it is more expensive; however azithromycin generally also treats typhus, and leptospirosis besides typhoid. Whether gatifloxacin is active against typhus and leptospirosis in unknown.
- If you get a chance please visit the Everest ER website ( www.everester.org ) and read the interesting blogs written by Drs Steve Halvorson, Luanne Freer, and Peter Hackett.
- Finally when you get a chance please read this article that Dr Basnyat wrote in the Spotlight newsmagazine in Nepal.
